Is time a straight line, or a closed loop in which the beginning and the end meet?

German writer Hermann Hesse wrote in Siddhartha: "Time is not a straight line, but a cycle in which we repeatedly live through similar stories until we learn how to free ourselves from them." This idea opened the door to the creation of Closed Loop Lenormand.

The origins of Lenormand can be traced back to a German board game from the late 18th century called The Game of Hope, while its more distant roots may be associated with Italian coffee-ground divination. From the late 18th century to the mid-19th century, the legendary Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand became famous for her remarkably accurate predictions concerning the fates of Napoleon and Josephine. Her clientele included members of royalty and prominent political figures of the time. Madame Lenormand passed away in 1843. Three years later, a German publisher released the first Lenormand deck and named it after her. However, Madame Lenormand herself had no direct connection with the creation of the Lenormand cards.

Every Lenormand card depicts an object, animal, person, or symbol drawn from everyday life. Through the simplest and most direct imagery, these cards reflect the countless situations we encounter throughout life. In Closed Loop Lenormand, we have chosen to reinterpret these familiar symbols through the idea of the "closed loop."

The concept of the "closed loop" can first be understood as the internal logic of the cards themselves. Within a spread, the ending and the beginning are often connected in a continuous cycle. The ending represented by one card may become the beginning of another.

At the same time, the closed loop also reflects our understanding of life itself. Throughout our lives, we repeatedly experience meetings and farewells, gaining and losing, being wounded and healing. We arrive with nothing, and we leave with nothing. In this sense, life itself is one immense closed loop.

In this deck, we have given the traditional Lenormand symbols an entirely new visual life. Our intention was never to reproduce conventional Lenormand imagery. Instead, through our own artistic language, we wanted to retell this ancient symbolic system and allow everyone who encounters these cards to discover a story of their own within the illustrations.

Every image in this deck was independently conceived and drawn by us, stroke by stroke.

From the blood-red flower slowly blooming from the Rider's throat, to new life quietly emerging from the bones within the Coffin; from the floral knot around the Woman's neck, which is both a necklace and something tightening around her throat, to the single lucid tear that appears at the height of the Sun's brilliance - these 36 cards capture 36 moments of loss and gain, restraint and liberation, endings and beginnings.

Together, they form a visual narrative about cycles.

And now, this deck has arrived in your hands.

We do not presume to decide what answers it should give you. When you turn over a card and meet its image with your eyes, a certain resonance may quietly arise across time and space.

It is like the voice Siddhartha ultimately hears within the river in Hesse's story: all stories are contained within it, all cycles are contained within it, and within them also lies the possibility of release.

May this deck accompany you along a path that will one day be worth looking back upon.

We believe that many of life's difficulties return again and again because we have not yet recognized the path that has been winding around us all along.

The moment we recognize it, the path is no longer a cage.

It becomes a map.

May Closed Loop Lenormand accompany you along a path that will one day be worth looking back upon.

And then, keep going.
